Nathaniel Jones│ Oregon Laboratory Manager, Marine Technician
Nathaniel Jones graduated from Humboldt State University in 2015 with a Bachelor of Science in Oceanography with an emphasis in Geology. While in attendance, he worked for the HSU Oceanography Department as a Marine Technician. His main responsibilities included facilitating scientific research and training undergraduates in proper scientific sampling protocol. Nathaniel was actively engaged in oceanographic research focused on grain size analysis and was lead editor on a 13-person thesis building a nitrogen inventory of Humboldt Bay. He participated in domoic acid sample collection and Reef Check diver surveys as a AAUS Scientific diver. Nathaniel Interned with SeaTrec, tasked with testing thermal conductive material for a self charging ARGO battery system. After graduation he began volunteering as a Scientific diver for the Oregon Coast Aquarium, Oregon Fish and Wildlife, and the Oregon Zoo participating in invasive species surveys, MPA surveys, and animal collection. He has logged over 500 cruise hours on the R/V Bell Shimada as the night shift lead scientist charged with cruise planning for collection of domoic acid samples for NOAA. He has been working for MTS since September 2017, conducting field surveys, preparing reports, and sorting invertebrate samples.
